Reflections October 25th, 2008 Morning

The start of the morning went okay, but not with a bang. A lot of the students really did not like taking the Learn@UW quiz, and it didn't really provide as much excitement as it has in the past. I think with Learn@UW quizzes we should provide some kind of interaction like having a student who got the question right come to the board and try to explain something. Also, I think a question that lead into Dreamweaver would've been nice to introduce the topic because there isn't a flow.

When I was teaching Dreamweaver at the beginning, I forgot to have the students copy the files onto the desktop. This caused a little confusion as to what to do if Dreamweaver was open or not open. Some of the students remembered what div stood for but not everyone. I think a good review game for the second permit test would be Tapette but readding the definition and having the students smack which answer is right. Going through the overall lesson, we were able to get through everything. The students have a good idea on how to edit a CSS rule and add a new one. I think they know the difference between advanced, tag, and maybe class. Something I want to show students next time is doing an external style sheet. Dreamweaver did something funny this morning and did not do the style sheet internally. So, I was not able to show students how to transport it externally. Other than that, most of the students were able to finish the project without problems. Jaylah is really quick at Dreamweaver and was somewhat bored. Brandon was a little slow, so he will probably need more one on one attention. Jennifer and Anny were not here today and those two girls may need more help.

During worktime, I spent most of my time with two groups. Richie, Regeina, and Shativia are half way done with their Dreamweaver design. They just need to have a vetter color scheme because it is too bright. After they add in more design concepts the rest of it should be very easy for them to complete. I also worked closely with Jaylah. None of her group members were here today, so I tried to get her to complete the design of her site. Again she seemed unmotivated and disinteressted. For her design, she just needs to add in button designs. Afterwards, she will need to do more advanced scripting to make the website she invisions complete. Next session, I am going to tell Richie's group my suggestions. Urge Jaylah to add the buttons and then start working on the website design. Then, I want to work closely with Garrett's group because they seem to not have much done. The hardest part for the students right now is design concept. I think that should be a MAJOR focus for next semester.
