This morning the freshmen immediately went to work. I started out my day working with Brandon and Bronson. Garrett was absent. Bronson worked at home and brought stuff to ITA. This was great, because it seems that freshman care about their projects. Their group now has a website that is linked with CSS, clickable, and is formatted for content. Their next step is going to be adding their articles and other pictures.
Ninah's group is struggling. Right now they are worrying about the little details. This is really hindering them from finishing their overall design. I told them not to worry about roll of images just yet so that they can have some final project. Ninah still kept working on that as Taylor and Carrie watched her.
Regina and Richie had some design concept problems. Their website is not as graphical as the other students but again they were missing a member of their group. Regina than asked about if ITA could be made shorter that coming from 9-4 was a drag and that she could better spend her time working. So I tried to convince her about the benefits of ITA which lead to a 20 minute conversation about what you need in college, what you need for law school, and when to prepare for admissions. I'm hoping after showing her college expenses, how much money she is saving if she's coming to UW, how ITA will give her more scholarships, and calculating how much money she would make if she skipped ITA (2,600), I'm hoping that convinced her. And then I told her that Lance and Erica have both applied for Law school and that she can ask them for further questions.
The last group I talked to was Jennifer's, Maddy, and Jaylah. They have a completley clickable website with CSS infiltrated. Jaylah mentioned how the site was bland and boring. So then I suggested adding a table in so that she can put the computer on top. She realized that she would have to reformat parts of the website, but I think it is something their group can handle. They still need to have their articles in and fix minor CSS code.
Overall the day went well. The freshman started working right away. I think they felt pressured for time and wanted to get as much out of today's session as possible. I'm confident that all groups will have a presentable website for the holiday luncheon.

Hi Ann,
This sounds like a really good job on your part. Thank you for taking your goals seriously. I'm so happy you talked to Regina about all that stuff, she has been thinking about whether ITA is for her since the moment I met her. We shouldn't badger her about it too much, but I think anytime she sees that we care, it's a really good thing. I also liked that you took advantage of a "teachable moment". It is much more important to get those kinds of conversations happening than it is to get a silly web site done. Nice job!
Finally, thank you for being so detailed in this blog... you have no idea how much I appreciate that from all the instructors.
